How this site makes money, stated plainly

This website makes money in three ways: commission on products we link to, a one-time fee when a groomer claims their listing, and banner advertising. All three are set out below.
Affiliate Links
Some pages link to products on Amazon and other retailers. If you buy through one of those links we may earn a small commission. It costs you nothing extra. The price you pay is the same as it would be going direct.
U.S. Pet Groomers is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
Where a page carries affiliate links, it says so on the page itself, next to the products rather than buried at the bottom.
What the Commission Does Not Change
- We recommend the tool the coat needs. The products linked from a page are the ones that page already tells you to use, and several pages tell you plainly not to buy things that are widely sold, such as brushes marketed as stopping shedding or blades sold as deshedding tools.
- We do not link to something because it pays more. Commission rates are similar across the categories involved and are not what decides the list.
- We have not tested every product we link to. We link to a type of tool, such as a metal comb or a basket muzzle, rather than endorsing one manufacturer, and you should read the reviews on the retailer's own page before buying.
- Nobody pays us to appear. No manufacturer or brand has paid for a mention anywhere on this site.
Groomer Listing Fees
We charge groomers a one-time fee to claim a listing, or to add one that is not already in the directory. It is worth being clear about what that fee does and does not do.
- Being listed is free. The directory is built from public business data, and a salon appears in it whether or not it has ever heard of us or paid us anything.
- Paying does not improve a salon's position. Listings are ordered alphabetically. A paid claim lets the owner add information to their own listing, such as opening hours, the pets they take and photographs. It does not move them up a page or ahead of anyone else.
- We do not accept payment for reviews or rankings, and we do not publish star ratings at all.
- We take no commission on grooming. The phone numbers and website links go to the salons directly. What you spend with a groomer is between you and them.
Paid Advertising
We sell advertising on this website. There is one banner slot across the site as a whole, and a separate banner slot on each town page. Those are paid placements.
- Advertising is always marked. A paid banner carries a label identifying it as advertising, and the link carries the markup search engines expect on a paid link.
- Advertising does not change the listings. A banner sits above the list of groomers in its own space. It does not move any salon up or down, add anyone to the directory, or remove anyone from it. Listings remain in alphabetical order whether or not anybody has bought a banner on that page.
- An advertisement is not a recommendation. We check advertising wording before it appears, but we do not verify claims a business makes about itself, and displaying an advertisement is not an endorsement of that business.
- We do not sell coverage. Nobody can pay to be written about, reviewed, featured in a guide, or left out of one.
FTC Compliance
The Federal Trade Commission requires that a material connection between a website and the products or businesses it writes about is disclosed clearly. This page, and the notice printed beside every block of product links, is how we do that.
If you ever find a paid placement or an affiliate link on this site that is not marked, tell us and we will fix it.
