Groomers in Alaska
77 grooming salons across 20 cities and towns
Alaska is double coat country, and the most useful thing to know about a double coat is that shaving it does not help. The undercoat insulates in both directions, keeping heat out as well as in, and once it is clipped it can grow back patchy, softer and a different texture. Ask for the dead undercoat raked and blown out instead.
Winter brings the other job, which is feet. Ice balls form between the pads on any dog with hair growing there, and treated roads leave grit and salt behind that a dog then licks off. Keeping the hair between the pads short and rinsing the feet after a walk deals with almost all of it.
